Living amongst the sands in the tomb desert was difficult, but trained Skeem to endure harsh environments and deadly enemies. Perhaps that lifestyle accustomed him to set out on an adventure. After all, the world can't be much more treacherous than the sands of the Tomb Desert.
The Call came after he and his childhood friend set off to find relics of the Embryans. His friend, Milo, was a natural born magic user of elven descent, but during their adventures, something happened, killing Milo and binding his soul to Skeem, who despite wielding no arcane powers of his own, absorbed Milo's sorcerous channeling, turning him into an unstable conduit. Now the spirit of Milo seeks to thwart Skeem as either some sort of vengeful spirit or supernatural prankster.
After the incident, Skeem's tribe gave him a strange compass bearing unknown runes and charged him with finding out to what it leads, the needle pointing away from North. Venturing directly to Heroes Hold, he formed a party with Loren, Raurik and Corlys, each of their individual journeys coalescing into a joint venture. Finding a powerful orb imbued with giant magics in the basement of the bunker of Promised Death, they came across Dragor Coalscale who is seeking the stones similar to that which the adventurers only just found.
During the adventure, Skeem has improved on the unnatural gift he inherited, forming spells and effects usually employed only by wizards and lifelong mages. Sometimes, Milo skews the effects of Skeem's spells, turning them on his party members or causing some detrimental effect during the heat of battle.
After setting out to the Emerald Planes, guided again by the compass, they came across a large manor bearing the symbols of the giants and housing a cathedral dedicated to those entrusted with completing the collection of the runestones. Within the cathedral, in the ground forming a circle around a central pedestaled area, there was a phrase with circular divots and words etched into the stone itself.
"◯, dear ◯. May your ◯ bring imagination to all creatures, and may they find ◯ in your ◯ ◯."
The stone found in Heroes Hold socketed into the first divot, saying "Rest, dear ◯. ...."
In the Library of a Single Book within Runestone Manor, Skeem discovers a mostly redacted book with the slightest hint of a name missed in the cover-up. Saying the name aloud, Malel, the previous keeper of time, makes a pact with Skeem, making him a Time Bound warlock (homebrewed subclass) in exchange for getting others to speak the name of Malel, that being a form of prayer and means of giving him a sliver of power.
