He wanted nothing more than to protect. That's all. He knew there were evils people didn't take seriously. That's what drew him to the wall. Towering 800 feet, stretching beyond vision in both directions, he'd only heard tell of it's awful presence, but knowing very little of what it held back... That's why he joined the Dragon's Cavalry in the Emerald Commonwealth. Young as he was, he'd seen enough of his friends killed by the dark-hearted for a lifetime and wanted to fight back against the ultimate evil. He didn't know what was on the other side of the wall, but whatever it was, he would stand against it.
The Dreamquake tore down the only home he'd had for years. The wall, now little more than a misshapen line of chiseled rocks strewn on either side of its foundation, whatever lived there, in the Emerald Plains, would have no problem leaving now. Queen Eris' final words were that of retreat, survival, protecting himself, but it faded away. Then he awoke. After... however long, he awoke. His skin paler and his mind able to think clearer than he remembered, he knew something happened to him. Everything was so different. Then his thoughts cleared, and he remembered. His goal, to protect, that hadn't changed. He remembered.
A voice called him to her service, shaking the night skies with a delicate strength. It pulsed from the moon, then he realized. The moon maiden, Selene - an almost forgotten goddess - beckoned him to serve her and become her cleric. Accepting, he was tasked with finding who was responsible for the destruction of her domain, who pierced the moon and left her a fraction of her former self.
When the party formed, Corlys accepted the invitation, there being protection in numbers, but finding that his former dragons cavalryman, Dragor Coalscale, was somehow working with the flickers was too much, and he sought answers in the Emerald Planes, where Dragor had been trapped for only 5 yrs north of the wall, but to the south, 35yrs had passed, leaving Dragor an entirely different person.
In the Emerald Planes, Corlys met a few individuals, one being Grimthane, a self described "evolution of nature; and amalgamation of the Gods' fears themselves," who somehow had the ability to transform beings into the flickers. Grimthane being responsible for the deaths of almost every person Corlys held dear, the party united and slew Grimthane. The more impactful, upon meeting a man named Lucas, Selene spoke to Corlys and instructed him to kill Lucas, he being the man who did or would in the future pierce the moon. After failing to finish him, Lucas fled and the party was left with questions.
